The Magnetic Reflective Survey Target is a surveying accessory designed to provide a removable measurement target on suitable ferromagnetic metal surfaces.
Unlike adhesive survey markers, a magnetic target can be attached without permanent bonding, making it useful for temporary reference points and measurement tasks where repositioning may be required.
This type of reflective target can be considered for selected total station applications in steel structure construction, industrial installation, and engineering surveying.
The main advantage of a magnetic survey target is its attachment method.
On compatible steel surfaces, the magnetic base allows the target to be positioned and removed without drilling or applying adhesive.
Potential applications include:
Steel Structure Surveys
Positioning temporary measurement targets on suitable steel beams, columns, and other accessible structural components.
Industrial Equipment Installation
Establishing reference targets during machinery positioning, equipment alignment, and installation checks.
Construction Layout Verification
Providing temporary reflective targets for checking designated positions on suitable metal structures.
Engineering Detail Measurements
Supporting measurements at selected metal surface locations where conventional prism mounting is inconvenient.

Magnetic attachment requires a suitable ferromagnetic surface. Aluminum, many stainless steel grades, and nonmetallic materials may not provide sufficient magnetic attraction.
Before taking measurements, ensure the target is securely positioned and that the contact surface is clean and stable.
For repeated observations, any unintended movement or repositioning of the target can affect measurement consistency.
The reflective material, target offset, and instrument compatibility should also be verified before use.
